The new fantasy football season is upon us, and now is the time to look at the 2009 fantasy football rankings.

From rookies to guys you may have your eye on with a late round pick, there are various resources to help you. One that I think is great is a free fantasy football cheat sheet. You can’t beat free!

Looking at the upcoming season, this year could be the year of the wide receiver going in the early rounds. There seem to be many talented running backs that will fall into the middle rounds, and it is likely that you can pick up a number one in the second round.

The quarterback position seems to be just as well stocked. Depending on your scoring system, quarterbacks were likely taking between five and seven of the top ten point getters. Putting off your pick of a quarterback can allow you to stock up on higher quality position players, including tight ends.

That takes us to a very perplexing position this year. The TE position is one where you may see many early picks. I expect the TE’s starting to go off the board in late round two or round three. Going into the draft knowing this can give you a leg up on your fellow players. I will likely be grabbing one of the best tight ends early this year, as there will be a large fall off between the top five to seven and the rest of the pack.

Defense and kickers are very far down my list when planning my draft. You can typically get a starting quality defense or kicker in the very late rounds. Also, I like to look ahead to the bye weeks at the kicker and defense positions. By taking someone with a late season bye, you can free your roster up to add more players with big upsides. It makes no sense to carry more than one kicker or defense, and having a late season bye will really help you keep just the one on your roster.

Well, that’s our quick look at the upcoming season, best of luck to you!
